Meet the NEWEST member of the My Mother Has Sole team, Erika Hill!
Erika is the Principal of Vision Street Research, a community research consultancy specializing in market research, project management and moderation. Erika has been doing marketing and marketing research for over 10 years. She has over 5 years of experience in community development, working for such organizations as NeighborWorks America, Sustainable Long Island, New York State Housing Community Research, YWCA of Greater Atlanta and United Way of Greater Atlanta.
A New York (Queens) native, Erika holds a Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration from Clark Atlanta University and a Masters in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University. In her spare time she enjoys playing tennis, mentoring young girls and tutoring youth in math.
Sherlina’s motto is ‘Speak…Believe…Receive’, all positive affirmations that carried her to her current level of success. As a motivational speaker, success coach, youth advocate, and entrepreneur, Sherlina has been committed to empowering, encouraging, and uplifting youth and families. She has traveled throughout her home town of Brevard County, Florida and schools throughout Atlanta speaking to youth about her personal triumphs and success, while also encouraging students to exercise the power within to achieve their dreams. As the CEO and Founder of SLS Business Solutions and Consulting Inc. where she employs and trains high school and college students on the necessities of business and leadership development, SLS Business Solutions Inc. consults with several small businesses within Atlanta and Florida, through providing business and writing solutions; that include creative writing, business plan development as well as grant writing services just to name a few.
Sherlina has been dedicated and committed to empowering whole communities. Her experience working with youth and families for over 15 years stems from her rearing in a small in Florida where the poverty rate for African Americans is dismissed and undocumented. Sherlina believes that despite the world of turmoil and grief there is always a glimmer of hope, along with a world filled with dreams and infinite possibilities.
Sherlina currently resides in Atlanta, Ga and is completing her dissertation at Walden University with a research focus on program effectiveness.
A native of Long Island (Hempstead), New York, Nicole is no stranger to fitness and community work. Nicole served in the United States Marine Corps and after being honorably discharged began her academic career with a focus in Social Work. She received her BSW and MSW from Georgia State University and is currently working on her PhD from the University of Georgia, School of Social Work. Nicole has been involved with several community based organizations to include 9 to 5 National Association of Working Women, Partnership for Southern Equity, and the YMCA. She has served as a mentor to dozens of young people and has been a “Big Sister” with Big Brother Big Sister for ten years Nicole, along with her son, Jalen, can be found leisurely running the streets of Atlanta as well as participating in several 5ks in the area. It was during these times that Nicole recognized how much more motivated she was when she and her son participated in fitness together. This family fitness time is what sparked Nicole’s interest in organizing a race that focused on family & community health. Nicole believes that developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is best achieved when you have the support of a team. What better team than your family? My Mother has Sole Family Fun Run will be part of the larger movement toward encouraging healthy lifestyles among families and communities.
Michael (Mike) Jones lives by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s quote, “Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve”. Mike is a graduate of Gardner-Webb University with a B.S. in Health and Wellness. He is a former European Basketball Player with a passion for athletics, fitness, and overall healthy living. Mike is the Fitness and Nutrition correspondent for Vitamin C Magazine. He currently works as a physical education teacher, high school basketball coach, and is a certified fitness trainer. Mike is the creator of the Mike Jones Get Moving, Get Fit Kickball League an adult kickball league aimed at getting adults active by engaging in a fun sport. He serves as a mentor for young men in the Atlanta area and can be found on any given day encouraging and supporting youth to live up to their fullest potential.
Gary Jenkins, Pacesetter’s P.R.
For nearly 35 years Gary Jenkins has been putting together races. He originally got into the business by helping organize a running club with friends and then founded Pacesetter’s P.R., an Atlanta-based race and event management company that specializes in running and racing events. Gary and Pacesetter’s P.R. currently manage nearly 100 events per year, including the Run and See Georgia Grand Prix, which draws nearly 70,000 participants annually in the 450+ races on the Grand Prix.
Formerly an avid runner and competitive racer himself, Gary is highly respected in Georgia and the southeast and IS known for putting on quality races at competitive prices. He is also the publisher of Georgia Runner Magazine, making him a very busy man.
